The Babies Love It!

Review Date: April 24, 2009

When we learned we were having twins, and one of each sex, at that, we discovered a dilemma: finding a fairly gender-neutral color scheme/pattern in pretty much everything we would be getting for them. Then, we took a car seat class at the hospital where we were delivering and learned what to look for in a car seat. The Graco SnugRide32 Zurich fulfilled all criteria. The sage/lime green (which later inadvertently became one of the colors of the nursury) and brown fulfilled the gender-neutral criteria, while looking pretty darned classy at the same time. I now feel like I have to dress up when I'm lugging these things around, just to pull it all together.
Anyway, the features are what's important: The instructor in the car seat class stated that the American Pediatric Association recommends that an infant remain rear-facing in a car seat until 1 year of age or 30 lbs. The SnugRide32 meets this standard and then some, which was rather attractive and money-saving in the long run, as most of the other car seats we looked at had weight limits that topped out at 20-something pounds. This one rates up to 32 lbs. The SnugRide32 base also has the LATCH system feature, which makes installation a lot easier if your car was made in 2003 or later. If not, as in our case, installation is still really easy, as the base has a built-in clamp that helps hold the seat belt more tightly in place, thus keeping the whole thing locked down more securely. Also, the seat has a five-point, fully adjustable harness system that keeps baby safe and snug as a bug in a rug. Finally, it has the one feature that our instructor said was worth whatever extra it may cost--the front harness adjustor strap. You just put the little one in the seat and put his or her extremities in the harness, click the buckles into place, and pull the strap tight. That's it. No need to turn the seat around and fumble with the tightening straps on the back. With this seat, you can just strap 'em in, pull 'em tight, and go. I love efficiency. And the most important reason of all is that my babies love their car seats and could probably sit in them for days if we let them. Wonderful product.
Excellent car seat!!

This car seat is extremely easy to use. The shoulder harness was had to adjust (the back was hard to pull off), but once you have it adjusted, the seat is easier than others to use. Also, the arm is sooo much easier to adjust than other car seats!!

The only real negative thing I have about this car seat is that it's hard to get in and out of the vehicle. The other car seat I uesd had the button on the feet of the seat, which made it so much easier to maneuver.

My son is MUCH more comfortable in this seat - it has more padding, more room for him to grow, and he doesn't sweat as much as he did in the other seat.
Safety & Style

The Graco snug rider has received excellent safety reviews, which was a paramount concern for selecting a car seat. My daughter-in-law and son researched all the options and chose the Zurich pattern for it's relatively neutral look. This is their first child- a girl- but they hope to have another so they wanted a car seat system that would suit either sex. The Quatro system has the versatility they are looking for to go from car to store etc. without having to disturb a sleeping baby, or struggle to remove the seat from the car. The price was comparable to the stores, but easier to get through Amazon (especially with no shipping charge!) It was received when promised. The convenience of being able to order the entire system through one site was an added bonus!
Couldn't be happier

We love our snugride. First it's great that amazon ships without tax and has a discount - cheaper than stores. But this carseat is great, good colors, functional. We bought the stroller frame too, makes for a light weight way to get around instead of the big stroller 'system' that needs two people to carry and a huge trunk to fit it in! Would highly recommend this carseat - our little one loves it!
Awsome carseat!

I am a mom of three, I bought this one when I had twins. It is a great carseat! Works great for both our girl and Boy. Really easy to adjust. Comfey for the babes and light enough that I can carry both of the babies, up 3 flights of stairs!! We also got the stroller to go with it and it is great!
Highly recomend!!!
Wonderful Carseat - No Regrets

During my pregnancy, I searched for 4 months for a carseat I would be happy with. I spent hours online reading reviews and ratings, and I FINALLY decided to go with the Graco Snugride32 in Zurich. I ordered it before my son is born and now he is almost 4 months and I am so pleased with this carseat. First, the snugride32 can hold up to 32 lbs vs the traditional 20-22. My friend has a 5 month baby that is 23lbs and is already having to buy a new carseat. I know this carseat will last me a while and save me some $. Second, my baby was a preemie, so I was VERY concerned about how my itty bitty baby would hold in this large carseat. He looked so tiny in it, but he did so wonderful. His head didn't flop, and thanks to the extremely convenient front adjustable straps, it was very easy to secure him in there. The nurses at the hospital were highly impressed with the carseat. Also, the base was easy to secure in our back seat, my husband did have to use pliers to get the straps really tight so the seat wouldn't move around or shift, but after 4 months of use, the carseat is still snug in our backseat. Also, the carseat is so easy to latch in and get out, which my husband appreciates because he totes around our son.
Lastly, I love the print and the material. The print is a beautiful gender-neutral color that I will be able to use with my next child. And the material is thick, so the baby has cushion. I made sure it was not that awful polyester material, because I live in phoenix, and when baby's sweat on polyester their whole bodies end up soaked. Also, its easy to clean. My baby had reflux and would spit up ALL THE TIME, and it was so simple to wipe up or put in the wash so the carseat doesn't smell. When you wash it it looks brand new! Again, I am a very particular person, but I have found no fault in this carseat. If I had to point out the cons, I would say that it is bulkier and on the heavy side to carry around (but that's the price you pay because it holds 32 lbs vs 20, so it lasts longer) and that my husband did have to use pliers to make it secure in the car. Highly recommended by this protective mommy!
Really comfortable. My 15 days old daughter loves it

The sitting angle is just right for my 15 days old daughter. She does not cry when we put her on the car seat. It seems that she is quite comfortable with it. So far we had gone out on small trips to the nearest grocery store and to the doctor's appointment with her and she is enjoying these trips.
LOVE IT!

Never had a car seat that was so easy to use, the straps are so simple to tighten and loosen on a whim, would buy it again and again. (If I wasn't convinced it will last forever and I wont have to.)
Great if you end up with a larger baby, have larger car

Reviewer: NewMom07,
It is hard to rate car seats... because what works perfectly for your situation might not for another person.

This works great for us. Here is why:

positive:
* HUGE #1: The Snugride line was rated TOP for safety in Consumer Reports for infant car seats!!
*We have a baby in the 90th percentile. This means if we would have bought the snugride (regular), he would have outgrown it at 6 months.
* The Snugride 32 allows us to aviod putting him in a convertible car seat much longer (as for even a 50th percentile kid). Even though convertible car seats can be rear facing to about the same 30 pounds, they are much more cumbersome to deal with rear facing than this one.
* It is roomier for our little guy than the regular snugride.
* Yeah, the seat itself it is heavier. But once your little one grows to be over about 15lbs... no matter what the car seat you'll probably stop carring him in the car seat anyways.

negatives:
*This seat is really only useful if you have a larger car as the seat is longer in length. We have a Santa Fe, and even with that large car the front passanger has to move up his seat ending up with bent legs for a long drive. Can't see how the 32 would work in a sedan.
* The seat is heavier. Yes.
* You can't put the seat on top of the shopping cart. I would never do this anyways-- too unstable and dangerous in my opinion.
* You can't fit this carseat into many restaurant booth seats. Again, I compensated by putting it on a chair.

OVERALL... I would buy this seat again. Mainly because by the time my guy is 30 pounds, he can move into the forward facing car seat. We can skip the awkward backfacing convertible car seat phase (between about 22-30 lbs).

Gotta have a larger car though.
Glad we went with the larger size

As my husband and I are tall, we reasoned that it might be safe to assume we should purchase items for a taller baby. So glad we went with the Snug-fit 32 - my son is statistically taller than ALL babies his age and the car seat is the only baby contraption he shows no sign of growing out of. The seat works with the regular SnugFit Snap-n-go stroller frame and, especially with a heavy baby, we find the mix a life saver, pushing him from the house out to the car in his stroller frame. A girlfriend has the same seat as we and says that it also fits into her jogging stroller of another brand. Be aware that the strap system is not intuitive. Read the directions and it's really important that you use the little release button under the flap near baby's feet or you'll make yourself nuts. The pattern is nice and gender neutral, so we look forward to using it with our next baby.
