Great Carseat!

Review Date: July 14, 2009
Reviewer: L. Lau,
My daughter is 5 months old now and we love this car seat! I did my research before deciding on a car seat/stroller combo, and decided on this one. This car seat is very light and easy for me to manage (I'm 5'2 and 110 lbs). I've read complaints about it being difficult to unlatch from the base, but taking the advice of people here, we used WD-40 on the mechanism and it has worked perfectly ever since - no problems at all! I unlatch the car seat from the base easily everytime.

I also like the anti-rebound bar, in addition to the added safety feature, it's a great added bar for holding onto while picking up or putting down the carseat.

I've also had many compliments on the look of the car seat and stroller. The colors and design are great, fashionable but not loud. I've also noticed that my daughter LOVES to look at the dots design on the inside of the canopy, it is a perfect design for young eyes that are attracted to different colored dots and dot outlines! I catch her staring at it often and she sometimes reaches up to touch the dots.
Awesome for the price...

My husband and I bought this car seat to go with the matching Combi Helio DX stroller in the same apricot color. They both arrived in perfect condition, and are super simple to put together. The car seat is extremely high quality, and the rebound bar you see in the front is a nice feature. The color is gorgeous, and it snaps in seamlessly to the stroller. We also purchased an additional base so each of our cars would have one. It's very lightweight, and therefore easy on your arms. Now we're just waiting on our baby girl to get here!
Love this carseat/stroller!

I have a 6 and 7 year old, so I definitely had certain criteria that had to be met when shopping for baby gear (based upon what I liked/disliked from my older children).

I had my mind set on the Chicco KeyFit30 carseat, but after receiving the Combi Cosmo EX Stroller as a gift from my parents, I thought I would look into this carseat (I really wanted the ability to place the carseat in the stroller and I LOVE the sturdy, compact design of the stroller). I read the opinions for this product on Amazon.com and wondered why the mixed reviews? There is not a store in my state that carries this model carseat--so my husband and I couldn't see it before buying it, but I was intrigued by the stabilizer bar, as well as the light weight of the actual seat. So, I went out on a limb and ordered the carseat in hopes it would not disappoint. It arrived the day my daughter was born, so we didn't have a chance to play with it prior to taking her home, but I was pleased with the quality when it came out of the box. We've also had plenty of opportunity to use the carseat since our daughter was born in early October.

1. Fabric: It is not the softest, but honestly, after having had soft fabric, I appreciate the fact that this fabric looks and feels like it could withstand the wear and tear of more than one child. (Also--My daughter had to have blood work done everyday the first week of her life. After one of the blood draws, the bandaid fell off my daughter's foot and a fair amount of blood got on the carseat fabric. At first, I was upset, but after using Hydrogen Peroxide and a paper towel, I was able to get the blood out of the fabric!)

2. Sun Shade: It stays up by itself (previous reviews state otherwise). When the carseat is in the stroller, the sunshade on the stroller almost meets the sunshade of the carseat. I rectify this by throwing a blanket over the top. No big deal.

3. Overall design: This includes the plastic shell-I am very pleased with the quality of the whole product. It is light weight and sturdy. The stabilizer bar clearly states to NOT carry the carseat by the bar which is fine--you'd probably drop the baby anyway, but it is helpful when getting the carseat in and out of the car. No, the seat does not come with a head support, but rather than buy one, we stick some burp cloths (we use cloth diapers) next to the baby's head--they double as spit up catchers ;). The straps are easily tightened and loosened. The buckles are made of sturdy plastic. The bottom buckle goes together like a key before going into the locking system--this can prove to be a little tricky if you are in a hurry, but hopefully we are all striving for "Safety First" with our children and not necessarily what is most convenient.

This carseat definitely beats the pants off of the bulky, heavy Graco carseat I had 8 years ago with my first!
We love the set!

My husband and I had to give up our Graco infant seat and single stroller for a double stroller since we have another one on the way, but needed something smaller since we have a smaller car (Pontiac G6). I'm also not that big a person (I'm 5'3, and my husband is 6'2). After looking and doing research, we ended up getting the Combi Double Stroller in Papaya with the shuttle infant car seat. The stroller fits well in the back of our trunk and still leaves space for groceries, diaper bags, or whatever else we need to throw back there. When we first got out the car seat, we too had a little trouble unlatching it from the base and just thought I would use it without the base. But like other suggestions, we also used some WD40 on both the car seat (both latches and release handle) and base, worked snapping it in and out a couple of times, and it works great. Now I don't have any problems at all getting it in and out of car, and totally love it. I don't the fabric is scratchy at all (the baby isn't going to be naked in it) and I love the safety feature of the rebound bar...it also give me something else to hold too when taking the seat in and out of the car.
NO PROBLEMS..

I just received this item a few days ago and already I love it.. Of course at first I didn't know how to connect it to the base but with a couple of tries I got the hang of it. I love the fact that the sun shield stays in place all by itself.. It's light weight and the material will not ball up with excessive rubbing! I live on a tropical island so the material also will keep the baby cool! When you buy a cheaper car seat you would usually have to buy a separate head support(most of them are made out of terry cloth which isn't ideal for hot weather!) I find the head support system on the car seat was very useful! It doesn't slide down with the weight of the baby! I recommend that anyone give this car seat a chance..
Nice car seat.

I bought this stroller for my son prior to his birth, and I love it. It's easy to fold up the stroller and put it in the car and great for moving around in congested areas! The only thing that kept me from giving this travel system 5 stars was that my son is only 5 months old and the car seat has started to pill where his feet rub. I really liked the texture of the material when I bought it, but it seems like it might not have been the best for durability. I also love the rebound bar and the simplicity of getting the car seat in and out of the car. I would definitely recommend this (or any other combi product) to any parents out there!
Like it a lot!

I love my combi stroller and needed the carseat to fit into it. I was skeptical with the many mixed reviews here, but I'm glad we stuck with our combi carseat! The first few weeks I struggled getting it out of the base and almost returned it, but I'm glad I stuck with it because my baby is only 6 weeks, but as he gains weight, it gets easier to release.
Sturdy, lighter than most, little snug

We like this Combi carseat because it seems well made, sturdy, and baby fits in this seat comfortably. We used a graco with our first child and it was heavier and bulkier. We also like the look of the Combi since it has a simplistic yet trendy appeal to it. The fabric is of good quality unlike some of the other carseats I have seen. The only problems that I am having is getting this seat out of the base! My husband has no problem, but it is difficult for me. I had no problem with the Graco. I guess I will have to try the WD40 trick as other reviewers have mentioned.
The other problem is that our 5 week baby fits snuggly into this seat now, but will he be able to fit into this in a few months or so?
Other than this, it is very attractive, safe, sturdy, and well, it's not a graco...
Not the best...

Okay, so I'll start with the positives:

1. Aesthetically attractive design
2. Comfortable for baby
3. Works well with stroller system

Negatives:

1. Extremely difficult bottom buckle: The bottom buckle is made of 2 plastic latches that fit together like puzzle pieces before insertion. The problem is that it's difficult to hold together while buckling. Major design flaw. Would not have purchased if known beforehand.
2. Give in straps is uneven. Over 3 months the left strap has become significantly looser than the other. May be easy to fix, but annoying to deal with.
3. Hood could have more coverage. It would be nice if the hood stretched out a little more.
